PARADIGM TRANSITION displays yet another facet of Chekalin's musical personality, a very different one. I don't know how much he may have listened to the music of Christian Vander, but in some s ways this album echoes him, albeit markedly different in compositional style. ImageChekalin's music is more melodic and cerebral, synthesized, and ceremonial in a pagan sort of way. The instrumental arrangements accented by powerful percussive effects, and phonetic vocals in a made up language that creates at times a liturgical effect. This combination of music, pulse and voice results in an alchemical hybrid of jazz and neo-classic rooted in the tradition of Russia's great masters of music culture. The album is a powerful example of a modern "post symphony", and may well be the ultimate emotional listening experience when it comes to Chekalin's music. As such it stands as a stunning piece of musical counterpoint in relation to the other two works of the trilogy. A. Patterson / Eurock.com
